All right everyone. We are now entering the voting phase to decide who will lead the BSUnion into the new year.

In order to make sure that all votes are “legal” and everyone votes only once, you will need to have your BSU number ready. Exceptions are made for students BSP and MinDef scholars who are not issued with a BSU number. You will need to indicate which scholarship scheme you are under if you do not have a BSU number.

At this point, I would like to point out that the BSUnion has not received a successful nomination for the post of Postgraduate Social and Welfare Secretary. All the nominations received for this particular post were kindly turned down by the respective individuals. As this is the case, the post for the Postgraduate Social and Welfare Secretary will not be up for nomination. It will be up to the next council to recruit an individual that they feel is suitable to the post in question.

To view the list of potential candidates and their testimonials, see the previous post on the website.

Dates:
Voting period: 26/04/2010 – 30/04/2010

Vote:
Submit your votes now, by clicking on the following form below.
Voting Form: http://bit.ly/b7wCor (Vote now closed).
List of Nominees and testimonials: http://bit.ly/91vNit

I will be collecting all the votes and the new committee line up will be revealed shortly after the voting deadline.

The following is an updated list of people who have been nominated to the various posts. I will be continually updating this list once I get confirmation from the nominees that they have accepted the nomination and are willing to run for the post.

President

Mohd Azeem Putra bin Abdul Wahab
Imperial College London
I have worked with Azeem or also known as Zymo during the BNight 2010. He had made a big great impression to everyone from the beginning of the year until now. He is one of the easiest people to work with because he knows what his purposes are and the responsibility he has in taking part in BNight 2010. It was a big pleasure to work alongside with him. I see him as a leader who will carry out his duties efficiently and also he’s very reliable, honest, dependable and calm. I can assure you, Azeem is full of great integrity and extremely dedicated to work as he is the Year Representative for ICUBS 2009-2010 in Msci Geology. – Haadi Amdani

Izzati Mohd Noor
Imperial College London
You may know her as the current Vice President of BSUnion. I have worked with Izzati for four years in middle school and the past year as members of the Union. Izzati has always been amazing at creating new ideas and executing the difficult tasks that she has been given. At the same time she was able to cooperate with her team mates in countless functions and activities. Even at fifteen years old she could lead us in organizing the unforgettable Road Show held at the Yayasan Complex! Through the years, I have seen Izzati grow not just as a professional but as a person too. I noticed how she can work and think fast if a disaster strikes, negotiate well with people, taking risks for the better and is usually up to date with pretty much everything. With the evidence that Izzati has such a huge circle of friends, we know that she is friendly and approachable. Apart from academic and administrative talents, the fun-filled Izzati can also dance and sing. With her bright mind and undeniable leadership qualities, there is no doubt that she is a perfect candidate for the President of BSUnion. In short for this well-rounded lady, Izzati is awesome. – Syamimi Bakar

Izzati embodies a lot of what a President should be: firm, responsible and quick on her feet. Many people have different views on what the President’s role in the committee should be, but one thing’s for sure – ultimately the President has to be able to keep things moving without being distracted by others. During her time in the committee this year she has done just that and this is a very impressive feat. Not many people her age can be as tough as her, which exemplifies the vigour and determination Izzati possesses as a leader. I believe she will be able to handle the pressure well because of her long list of experiences of being in leadership positions going back as far as her high school years. If she were to be elected President, I have no doubt that the Union will be her utmost priority (not counting her studies, of course!), which just shows how dedicated she is to the Union. – Nur Shahidah Shahbudin

Dk Hjh Fatin Syahirah Pg Hj Matusin
University College London
Most will remember Fatin as the face of the Union over the past academic year. Despite her initial worry of the council’s novice level of experience when they first started off, she has very successfully led the team in full confidence. She has adapted admirably amongst the students, officers and ‘Perisejati’ women of the Bruneian community in the UK, not to mention her professional liaison with many major companies in Brunei. Her unwavering dedication and enthusiasm to the union exhibits further her capability as a core team player, without any expense of her university work. Whenever faced with a crisis, Fatin was always quick on her feet, coming up with rational solutions and not afraid to seek advice from superiors whenever necessary. Outside the union, she is well-known as the friendly girl with an infectious laugh! Her popularity dates back from her High School/College days as the Student Council Head Girl and an avid dancer, to her active participation in netball tournaments and religious events. Having many years of organizational experience on top of her brilliantly zesty personality, re-electing Fatin as the President 2010/2011 will undoubtedly guarantee you a year of fresh and fruitful ideas, for she is more than capable of keeping the role as a worthy leader. – Zakiyyah Zaini

Ak Hj Ahmad Dzulhimam Pg Hj Baharudin
Queen Mary University of London
Ak Ahmad most commonly known as the legend is not only a friendly person but he can easily socialize with anyone he encounters. He is most loved amongst Brunei Hallers, he is very approchable, he is very determined person and most Brunei Hallers thinks he is most suitable for this post. It is fundamental that our BSU President be someone who is friendly because this would help to accentuate the relationship between the student body and the BSUnion. An attentive leader would help to maintain this delicate relationship. In his own terms, he is a perfectionist. A dreamer, if you will. We are sure that he is able to lead this union in. In his free time, he likes to play strategic chess which displays his propensity to look assess and evaluate a situation from a logical and commonsensical perspective. This simple, yet useful character trait is beneficial and conducive in finding resolutions. And yet again, we very often overlook this personality trait when searching for our electoral representative. On top of it all, he is a generous person. One that is always welcoming and inviting conversations. SO VOTE FOR AHMAD! You will not regret it. – Anonymous

Vice President

Izzati Mohd Noor
Imperial College London
Having been the Vice President for BSU this year, Izzati has demonstrated her assertiveness in handling difficult situations well. The Vice President is a position of power in which the person would have to take control whenever the President is unable to fulfill his/her duty, therefore a disciplined individual like Izzati fits the bill. I have no doubt she will fulfill her duties unrelentingly, as that is what she has been doing all this while. Although having a year’s experience of being in the council will work towards her advantage, her enthusiasm, work ethic and commitment to the Union altogether have made it evident that she takes this role seriously. – Nur Shahidah Shahbudin

Yazid Yakub
Imperial College London
Yazid was the vice president of ICUBS (Imperial College Union Bruneian Societies) 2009/2010 Committee. Despite his heavy workload of MEng Mechanical Engineering, he was able to balance his university work and society demands. He also co-directed the successful BNight 2010 play titled ‘Kasih Ibu’, which was a collaboration with BSUnion. From this he has portrayed himself as a very active and meticulous worker with great leadership skills and able to work remarkably as part of a team. He has always been observant and hence easily able to spot and correct mistakes. The Vice President position of BSUnion entails a lot more responsibilities and therefore requires full commitment which I am certain Yazid is able to offer. His friendliness and approachability will allow him to easily work and communicate both within and outside the Council what with his accommodating ear to constructive criticisms and new ideas. Simply put, I can confidently say he is qualified for this position – He won’t let you down – Fatin Matusin

Mohd Azeem Putra bin Abdul Wahab
Imperial College London
Azeem is a capable and responsible leader – the sort of person you can count on to deliver with quality, each and every time. A well-rounded individual with extensive leadership experience both at school and work, Azeem understands his responsibilities well. He packs with him a strong work ethic including a positive attitude to work, along with originality, creativity and a cool head – all evident from the numerous projects him and I have undertaken together. Unafraid to set an example and lead from the front, Azeem is also unfazen in the face of adversity (read: disaster) and quick to think on his feet, choosing to calmly and quickly assess and remedy the situation, rather than panic. With a caring attitude, a dash of charisma and above all, optimism no matter how big the task, Azeem is a committed yet versatile individual who promises to be all that is needed in the Vice-President – and more. – Muhammad Ayyub Kamaludin

Financial Secretary

Nur Izyan Madani
London School of Economics
Izyan may be small, but never underestimate her capabilities. Known for holding major posts back in her high school in Brunei, she is able to handle a number of tasks simultaneously – all of which resulted in positive comments. Having closely worked with her for a number of years, Izyan is highly regarded as one of the most efficient people, and in addition to that, fully committed and responsible. On top of that, she is confident, positive and is able to integrate herself well among people, given her likeable personality and great sense of humour. Her experiences in organisational activities go way back, most of which involved cooperating with various agencies in Brunei. Being a very diligent person, there is no doubt that Izyan can handle the finances of the Union very well, with the addition of her experiences in working with sponsors even since she was in Form Four. – Izzati Mohd Noor

Peng E Rue
Nottingham University
Always known for being very organised in everything she does, E-Rue sure has the traits of a good financial secretary. She is a person who pays great attention to details, and this is obvious in whatever projects or tasks that she was given. Also, being one of the important members of the Maktab Sains Student Council has exposed her to numerous situation, mostly involving dealing with sponsorships from various agencies. On top of that, E-Rue is a highly committed, trustworthy and responsible person, and for that she has been entrusted with very important jobs – mostly dealing with finances. So if you need someone trustworthy, committed and experienced, E-Rue is definitely one to consider. - Felicia Soon

Hakimah S.M. Musa
Imperial College London
It is the soft-spoken nature and patience in Hakimah that makes her comfortable for most to talk to. Having worked with her during the last Brunei Night, she was asked to be one of the emcees at the last minute – a gallant offer that she took up willingly and pulled off incredibly. Not only was she the emcee of the show, she also participated in a number of dances from which I have observed her to be one of the most punctual and conscientious individuals. From this, she has shown impressive organizational skills and capability to complete tasks given even at the most stressful times. With her background as the Head of House in her previous college, Hakimah has every potential to be a great leader. Her quick approval for this nomination reveals only a fraction of her eagerness to commit to the Union. The General Secretary requires a dedicated inspiring individual who will be the glue of the union, binding the whole team together. Hakimah fits perfectly under this criterion! – Fatin Matusin

Ak Hj Ahmad Dzulhimam Pg Hj Baharudin
Queen Mary University of London
I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate in my 3 years course. I have no distinct unique ability and the only leadership experience i ever encountered was during the international chess tournaments in my younger years and i was leading Brunei Junior team. I am an easy going person and able to adapt any situation if arise and I am willing to learn anything that is new to me. Although the position that i am trying to apply might be a bit too much for a novice or inexperienced like me, but I will take any positions available and will adapt to it. I am willing to try anything new, as i am going into my 3rd year, i would like, if possible, to do significant contribution to BSU and hopefully, will be able to help to improve the image and the effectiveness of BSU that can provide to students before going back to Brunei Darussalam Although I am hearing impaired that might possible lead to mis-communication, I am positive that those disabilities should not hinder me doing any tasks that will be given upon me. – Ak Hj Ahmad Dzulhimam Pg Hj Baharudin

Muhammad Nur Adzimin bin Abdul Amin
University of Essex
Zimin is known to be an easy-going guy, such an enthusiastic, very committed person and dedicated to whatever jobs he’s been told to do. When his mind is set, he never fails to deliver. I have seen his work previously and there is no doubt Zimin will get his job(s) done astonishingly well. This was well proven from time to time during his post with the Malaysian Society (MSoc) committee at University of Essex as the Media Officer. During his time in Maktab Sains, he was one of the Vice Presidents for the Youth Initiative Club and the student counselor of the Peers Counseling Group. However, this is not the only reason for this nomination. It is his bright personality, diligence, high level of commitment and effective team working skills that makes him an ideal candidate for this post. This guy rarely blames people for what have been done wrong, what he always does is spot people doing the right thing. In this way, people will get satisfied with their job, which is regularly rewarded intrinsically (through praises, etc). Overall, I am confident that he has all the skills necessary to take up this post. Hence, I have no doubt about his capabilities to be part of the BSUnion Councils. – Muhammad Aizuddin Roslan

Adrian Salleh AB Rahaman
As some of you may know, I am the current Information Secretary for the BSUnion. I told myself that I would not run this year and turned down one or two people who wanted me to nominate me for the post again. I have however, changed my mind at the last minute. Apparently I have issues letting go. I knew early on that getting the BSUnion information system and flow was going to take time and one year was not enough. Without getting into the details I hope to be able to continue to improve the communication from the Union and other Societies to all its members. – Adrian Salleh AB Rahaman

Didin is a very active person in religious activities/affairs. She was from Arabic school and also has a background in Arabic language. Besides that, she was also involved in other activities such as Kem Ibadah, ICUBS Brunei Night ‘10 and Khatam Al-Quran. I know her from Kem Ibadah, her knowledge on Islam is a lot and we can share a lot from her especially that she is from Arabic school. I think we should take this opportunity from someone like her to upgrade this union in making parallel to His Majesty’s vision in developing Brunei as Negara Dzikr – Rozailah Hj Abd Rahman

Ak Hj Ahmad Dzulhimam Pg Hj Baharudin

Muhammad Nurul Hafiz Haji Mohd Yussof
Imperial College London
Hafiz is someone that has the capabilities of being a religious secretary. He is currently Imperial College Union Bruneian Society’s religious officer and I believe, with his experience in holding this position, he will be equipped with the correct set of skills and professionalism that is required for this post. He has also participated and trained in the Bruneian Tilawah Al Quran scheme where he was trained to represent Brunei in international Tilawah competitions. With this training, he is capable of teaching and organising Khatam Al-Quran and Quranic Circle. Hafiz was also recently involved in the Kem Ibadah that was organised by BSU. From here, it was seen that his knowledge in Islam was sound and he was able to explain certain facts in a clear fashion. I believe that Hafiz will be a very suitable candidate as a religious secretary. With his strong background in religious activities and affairs, Hafiz will be able to help run activities and contribute ideas in the any of the union’s activities. – Muhammad Hifdzullah Haji Mat Yamin

Sports Secretary

Amirul Adini bin Haji Amir Abbas
Imperial College London
He may be remembered as the flamboyant Aaron in BNight 2010, but what most people might not know is that Adini is a very firm and responsible man, and not a lot of people have a clear understanding of what commitment means like he does. His willingness to learn and his ability to listen and advise makes him a very likeable person, despite the tough physique. Sports is one of his passions. From the high school days until now, his participation in sporting activities are uncountable, in which most are noted by his medals collection. Of course being active in sporting activities alone is not the reason for this nomination. Overall, Adini will make a good Sports Secretary, not only because he does a lot of sports, but this person grew up understanding the meaning of responsibility and commitment well, something that is crucially required in the committee. – Izzati Mohd Noor

Kamaliah Fadhilah Ibrahim
King’s College London
I’ve known Dilah from high school. She has been active in sports, especially netball, since a very young age. I am nominating her as the Sports Secretary because of her dedication to sports. She likes to organize and participate in sport events such as organize the weekly London netball pratices. I believe that she would take this post seriously and it will not be a hassle for her as she has done these sort of things many times. She is very down to earth and friendly so its easy for us to approach her. During the last Easter games, she was the captain of our team for the first time and I can see that she was very organized, dedicated and a very good leader. She always keep the team in high spirit with her never-ending support and encouragement. Having said that, I believe that she will make a great asset to BSUnion. – Wani Azaman

Sarah Hanaa Ahmad Ghazali
University of Warwick (Currently Shrewsbury School)
I have known Sarah for quite a long time to know that she is capable of holding this post and will definitely do an excellent job. She was once part of the Student Council and even the Head Girl of our secondary school back in Brunei in 2008 before we were granted the scholarship. Back in 2006, she managed to lead a group of students and helped successfully organise many activities including the major ones such as the Roadshow at the Mall and the Ultimate Challenge. Alongside that, she also managed to keep up-to-date with her studies and did well in her exams. It shows purely her commitment and dedication to her work. As a person, she is very easy to work with. Not only she is very well organised, she is also a good listener which is definitely essential for this job. Other than that, her sense of patience in doing her work and dealing with many other people makes it easy for her to blend in among others. I believe many agree with me that with her experience, she will certainly do a great job at carrying this position as Social and Welfare Secretary. She might be small, but she sure does prosper in talent! - Nurul ‘Atiqah Adinin

Muhammad Najmi Nurruddin Bin Haji Jasni
Back in his secondary school in Brunei, Najmi held one of the highest positions in the Student Council, proving that Najmi is a very responsible and committed person. Najmi has been actively participating in organising numerous successful events since 2006, when he was only in Form Four. His broad experience topped with his leadership qualities will definitely be an advantage for the Union, despite his young age. His likable personality also makes him very approachable, one of the traits required for him to easily communicate with other Bruneian student societies elsewhere. So I believe Najmi will be doing an amazing job as an Undergraduate SWS. - Anonymous
