The following is an updated list of people who have been nominated to the various posts. I will be continually updating this list once I get confirmation from the nominees that they have accepted the nomination and are willing to run for the post.

President/Vice President:

Sarah Hanaa Ahmad Ghazali
University of Warwick

She’s filled with ideas and the drive to actually make it happen. She can handle pressure well and takes other people’s opinions into account. Former head girl back in MS and also held a post in the BSU itself for the past year. Plus she’s small so she’d look adorable at the end of the table hew hew.
- Syazwana Haji Souyono

The qualities one should look for in a great leader are persistence, perseverance, rationality, great communication skills and most importantly, what glues these attributes together, is charisma. Sarah is one of the few humble individuals who possess all these qualities with a bonus ambition to make a change. She’s easy going and not too over bearing – just enough to get things done. Personally, working with her in the Brunei Warwick Society has showed me that the word ‘inefficiency’ is not within her reach. With the many voices and perspectives she listens to, it amazes me that these opinions never cloud her judgement. She would be an asset to the Brunei Student Union especially with her experience in planning events, negotiation skills and her excellent oratory capabilities. It would be a shame to see a natural born leader absent within the realms of the Brunei Student Union.
- Tharwana Harun

Everyone who knows Sarah should, by now, have realised that she is one of the best candidates for this position. The most important reason is that she has the makings of a great leader. This can be supported by her experiences: she was the Undergraduate Social and Welfare Secretary last academic year and she was our Head Girl back in Maktab Sains. She may be small, but one should not underestimate her management skills and leadership traits. Sarah is always calm and confident, which are important qualities to have as a leader, but at the same time, she can be as firm as a rock. Always packed with (jokes and) great ideas, I believe that she can take this society up to a whole new level, making her an invaluable asset to the society. Her judgment is unbiased and she listens to her subordinates, hence I trust that she will run the society democratically. I can’t tell you a story about how amazing Sarah is as a person, because there are probably hundreds of them, and telling you just one story will not do her any justice. However, I can tell you this, the society will be in good hands under her leadership.
- Adilah Abu Bakar

Radin Abdullah Basiuni
University of Reading

Radin is a very proactive, responsible and committed person. His experience being in the council in the year before has shown his amazing capabilities, most importantly his ability to lead and listen. A person with a positive attitude, Radin is highly respectful of his peers, allowing him to receive the same amount of respect from others, if not more. I believe with Radin leading the Union, the standards will be raised and significant improvements shall be witnessed.
- Izzati Mohd Noor

Radin was the 2010/2011 BSUnion A’level Social and Welfare Secretary. Although he was still in his Upper Six in A’level, his leadership skills can be clearly seen among the other BSUnion members and his Alevel peers. His contribution during his reign includes organising trips for Bruneian Alevel students and recently with the formation of Brunei Alevel Society. Simply put, Radin is a very hardworking, responsible and thoughtful young man, and I can ensure you he will not let you down.
- Yazid Yakub

Radin have shown himself to be a capable person managing his job for as A level Representative without very much fuss. He also has shown himself to be able to give useful advice during meetings and he is able to prove to lead the A levels for various educational activities. He also do his job done as soon as possible and do whatever he was told. Off the job, people find him very friendly and easy to talk. He so far managed to make people laugh with his jokes at any time and there is no dull moment around him. If you see him, you know you are going to get some good laugh if he started to interact with you. He also up-to-date with the current events and he is also renowned to have an excellent debating techniques. Therefore, with those abilities, I am sure he can perform very well, if not excellent, in any position offered to him.
- Anonymous

Ayyub Kamaludin
Imperial College London

I remember a chat I had with Ayyub one late night which goes on into early morning the next day. We were having coffee, sitting outside talking about issues. It was quite an experience actually, to say the least. You know how there’s those type of people whose so “high” up there in terms of achievements and personal qualities that you can’t help but say to yourself, “This man/woman will go far.” And you say that with sincerity, and you know it’s true. Well, he’s one of those people and even if we were both sitting, I get the feeling that I’m looking up.
And this is not just gut feeling. He was able to balance out work and grades well as the president of ICUBS in 2010/11. He can get people working without instilling mutiny. He handled ICUBS BNight 2011 masterfully. And most importantly, I know I can trust him when the time for it comes.
So as I sat there, listening to his calm responses to what I was saying, I found myself thinking how lucky I am to be able to drink coffee with a great man.
- Amirul Adini

Ayyub Kamaludin, a born intellectual leader with lots of ideas. Lead the Imperial College Union Brunei Society with confidence and determination to its ever successful peak yet. Organised, approachable and well spoken as I have clearly noticed, regardless of our friendship background. Whether you do or don’t know him, I’m confident that he can work with everyone. I experienced working along with him last year to bring Bruneians and other nationalities together in London, but I’m a hundred and ten percent sure that he can do so much more. It shall be, insya Allah, another great year for BSUnion once he leads.
- Ak Hj Md Zaki Pg DP Hj Zaini

- Hafiz Yussof, Qawie Sabli, Hazmi Rafie Hassan, Muiz Abdullah

Amirul Adini
Imperial College London

If I could describe Adini in one word is that he is visionary. However, having visions is nothing if you could not act on it and Adini is not afraid to take on risks and challenges to realize his visions. You know, as they say, there are three types of people in this world; those that make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened and Adini is one who make things happen. He is not one to break or give up easily. Adini is also a good listener and is open to other people’s opinions and ideas. Having worked with him in the Union last year, he has shown to be not only a great leader in organising last year’s Winter Games, but also a great colleague and it has been an honour working with him. The Council could really use Adini’s experience and knowledge in organising future events and with him in the Council, I believe Brunei Students’ Union will be even more effective in achieving its goals and objectives.
- Izyan Madani

General Secretary/Deputy General Secretary:

Muhammad Arifuddin Ahmad
University College London

A dependable candidate who always strives to ensure all work is done effectively and efficiently.
- Najmah Matshah

Ak Hj Md Zaki Pg DP Hj Zaini
Imperial College London

If you give Zaki a task, he will see to it that it’s done. If you ask him for a suggestion, he will give a good one. Give him a bad suggestion and he won’t hesitate to tell you that he doesn’t like it. He is upfront, thoughtful and trustworthy. Zaki is a team player, and good for morale. This is what we need. His best asset, I think, is that he is careful and considered, and it is that wisdom that would be great to have in the committee. He did a very good job as Events Manager for ICUBS last year; we were both on the same committee. He managed to navigate the bureaucracy so inherent pretty much anywhere to secure us bookings, money and the like. He can either be very late (social functions) or slightly early (work, uni etc). Zaki currently splits his time between riding Boris bikes and a degree in Civil Engineering. But he will always have time for you.
- Ayyub Kamaludin

Intan Syamimi Kifrawi
Goldsmith College, University of London

Intan has had many work experience where has gained disciplinary organizational skills and capability to complete tasks given, especially at the utmost stressful times. She worked under the finance department for BRIDEX and Exhibitor Coordinator (EC) for Northrop Grumman, a leading global security company based in the UK.
She works well as an individual and as part of a team and puts her all into any task set. Being well natured and organized both on personal and professional levels allows her to focus on the best possible outcome for any challenge. She will be an asset to the committee. She is energetic and lively and will commit to finishing her task in the best way possible.
- Dilah Ibrahim

Radin Abdullah Basiuni
University of Reading

- Anonymous

Financial Secretary/Assistant Financial Secretary:

Adilah Hj Abu Bakar
London School of Economics and Political Science

Dilah was an important member of the Student Council back in high school, where events would not have been successful without her help, especially in handling the IT bits of events. A firm and meticulous person, the Union’s finances will be in safe hands with Dilah as the Financial Secretary. She is currently in her second year at LSE doing something Business and Maths related.
- Sarah Ghazali

I have only worked with Adilah for UK Bruneian Societies Fair to promote our University, and in that short amount of time working with her, Adilah has demonstrated that she is organised, detailed, easy to work with and is comfortable with expressing her opinions to people. I believe she will be able to handle the Union’s finances effectively and become an excellent medium between Brunei Students Unit and other societies in need of sponsorship, hence facilitating the organisation of the societies’ activities. I also believe she will work well with others in the Council and bring something new to the table.
- Izyan Madani

Religious Secretary/Assistant Religious Secretary

Haji Hafiz Haji Yussof
Imperial College London

Hafiz has shown great work as the religious officer for BSUnion for the past year, handling numerous amount of events such as Kem Motivasi Hijrah, Kem Ibadah, Pertandingan Lagu-Lagu Nasyid and so on. I am very sure we can trust him to be continue organising these events for the next acedemic year.
- Yazid Yakub

Hafiz has the capability to plan activities and also the determination to see that they are carried out. Polite, humble, and pious: all the qualities we would love to see embodied in our Religious Secretary. He is open to suggestions, nice to work with, and a genuinely good guy. He and his team spearheaded the inaugural Kem Motivasi Hijrah as well as the first Brunei Students Umrah Trip (under the guidance of Ustaz). Hafiz splits his time well between a joint Maths and Computing degree and his roles as both BSU Religious Sec and the Religious Officer for ICUBS. He has done the job well for the past year, and I am sure he will do the same, if not better, this time insyaAllah
- Ayyub Kamaludin

Sports Secretary/Assistant Sports Secretary:

Ehsan Ibrahim
Imperial College London

Considering my experience holding this post over 2010/11, I wasn’t sure anyone would want to do it. All I needed is someone who is not only willing to take the job, but actually want to do it. I needed someone who is easy to work with, won’t give everyone else too much trouble and stick to things when things go rough, as I know the things this responsibility may bring. Most of all, I needed someone I can rely on.
While looking for a nomination, I came up to him one day and asked, “You mind being the Sports Secretary?” Ehsan answered with a simple, “Yes, I’ll do it.”
And I found my man.
- Amirul Adini

Huda Sulaiman
City University London

During her time being Sports Secretary of BruLeics last academic year, she has done remarkably well in organising sports-meets which is now one of the most popular events amongst Bruneians studying in Leicester. Her leadership skills are unmatched, her dedication has motivated many to thrive to be the best they can be and her massive involvement in the BruLeics Society has made the years 2010-2011, one of the best years in Leicester for Bruneians.
- Abhar Ahmad

Have you ever seen a ball of lightning up close? Neither have I, but I can assure you this nominee would be the closest thing to it. My history with Huda has led me to believe she has the energy and persistence, and a strong commitment to the role of sports. As Sport Sec to Bruleics society, she has made the effort to deliver fun filled, challenging and exciting activities, which have succeeded in becoming the society’s weekly sport event. Her passion for Netball has made her a solid character for sports, seen attending all BSU sporting events, and winning trophies herself. A very approachable, easy-going and friendly gal, her middle name as ‘synergy’, she is determined to aid others and encourage to take part as a team. I strongly recommend Huda to be placed in the committee as you will be pleased.
- Adam Hanif

As President of the BruLeics Society for the period of 2010-2011, I had the privilege of being blessed with the hard work and undying dedication of Huda Sulaiman, the Sports Secretary of said period. In that academic year, the BruLeics Society had only been founded and was still in it’s incubatory period. As a new and upcoming society, we were mainly concerned with planting our feet on the ground as any new and upcoming society. We were still unsure of our roles and responsibilities at that time, not knowing when to act or how long to wait. That was not the case for Huda though, as she took the initiative in organizing our weekly sports-meets, which I can say greatly helped with integrating the members of the society. Apart from that, Huda organized friendlies with other Societies, which helped build a good rapport with certain Bruneian Societies. As a product of her unbiased nature, she accommodated for both genders of the society, mixing up the activities we did starting from the normal football and netball matches, to a variety of games such as dodgeball, human foosball, ultimate Frisbee and so on. Huda is also a very versatile person, as she assisted in a lot of other society work like designing the BruLeics hoodie and helping with organizing outings and so on. She was never short of creativity, fairness and dedication. She hit the ground running and never looked back. It would be unfair to my other colleagues if I said that an individual could be attributed to the overall success of the society, however frankly I can say Huda played a pivotal role in achieving this success. She was invaluable to the society, and I could not imagine anyone else to have been in her position other than her. This is why I trust and believe that Huda Sulaiman to excel and succeed in the position of the next Assistant Sports Secretary.
- Bahri Jofray

Information Secretary/Assistant Information Secretary

Siti Multazimah Ibrahim
City University London

During her stay at Swansea, Multazimah been selected as Swansea Representative for the BDSSW for 2009/2010. Then I really sure she has a credibility to do the job as Asst. Information Secretary, as she really committed to her work and like to update the others with any relevant information. She also act as the creator for the Brunei’s Students in Swansea blog page then she update the others through a group create in the Facebook. Her character that make me choosing her as the Information Secretary because she is friendly, easy to communicate with people and really committed in any task given.
- Dk Norhamdiyah Pg Ahmad

Intan Syamimi Kifrawi
Goldsmith College, University of London

I have known Intan since Year 10 back in JIS, and through those years, I realise how much of an enthusiastic, friendly, hardworking, and dedicated person she is. These are the necessary skills that needs to be possessed by an information secretary. Having already lived in Brunei Hall for a year also gives Intan an advantage in terms of creating a friendly and professional environment both with her peers and BSU teachers and other Brunei Hall officers. Her passion for design is not only restricted to academic purposes therefore I believe that by nominating Intan for this post would mean a revamped information secretary as she would integrate both information gathering and sharing with a creative edge that appeals to people.
- Syafiq Metassan

Intan is a second year student studying BA Design in Goldsmith College, University of London. She is very passionate about presenting and promoting matters in a more creative manner and this is something she can offer our Student Union. She has studied Information Computer Technology for 4 years during O-level and A-level, thus she has the capability to manage her way around a system.
She is one of the most hardworking people I know and this is not missed in any task she undertakes. . She has worked closely with the Brunei Student Unit as she was chosen to design the program book for His Majesty’s Junjung Ziarah, which was exclusively for His Majesty, the Royal families and the VIP guests. She handled this task with maturity, patience, determination and perseverance and this is the level of consistent working etiquette that you can expect from her.
The most important thing about Intan is that when faced with a difficult situation she will not back down and can be depended on. She also has the willingness to learn and never leaves a task till the last moment. Having been in the Committee before I know how tough the work is but I am personally confident that if she gets this position she will not fail to keep the Bruneian Students informed on relevant news efficiently.
Intan also has an amazing personality. She is loud and funny and will undoubtedly be a pleasure to work with. There will never be a boring moment with her and will definitely bring life into the union and to her work.
- Dilah ibrahim

Nabil Abdullah
London Metropolitan University

He is a twitter. He is a blogger. He is a photographer. He managed at least 3 websites and one of them is a forum. He has art creativity. He can be a DJ. Guess what? He does all that while he is pursuing A level last year. Met him last year, and found out that he has a very good common IT technical knowledge and managed to catch him doing a website maintenance. Geek? If you see him first glance, probably. But no, he have a very good sense of humour, he have lots of colourful friends and he is easy to talk with. Because of that, it is easy to ask him for advice for any computer technical stuffs. With those aspect, I am pretty sure, he can be an useful addition for Brunion.

A-Level Social and Welfare Secretary:

Vance Tan Zong Hao
Abingdon School, Oxford

Vance has assumed a pivotal role in the establishment of BruALS–the Brunei Darussalam A-Level Students’ Society in the United Kingdom–playing an integral part in the drafting of the society’s constitution and becoming its inaugural President. He has won my respect as a sincere advocate for the welfare of his peers. He has never hesitated to convey to me, the genuine opinions and concerns of his fellow Sixth Formers for the duration of my tenure as A-Level Social and Welfare Secretary. I have found Vance’s counsel indispensible and I hold great admiration for his sincere dedication towards his peers. I therefore believe that Vance is most qualified to succeed me in this role and in my honest opinion, our Union’s community of A-Level students, through BruALS, will collectively reach greater heights and attain greater cohesion under his stewardship.
- Radin Abdullah Basiuni

Undergraduate Social and Welfare Secretary:

Radin Abdullah
University of Reading

Radin was the 2010/2011 BSUnion A’level Social and Welfare Secretary. Although he was still in his Upper Six in A’level, his leadership skills can be clearly seen among the other BSUnion members and his Alevel peers. His contribution during his reign includes organising trips for Bruneian Alevel students and recently with the formation of Brunei Alevel Society. Simply put, Radin is a very hardworking, responsible and thoughtful young man, and I can ensure you he will not let you down.
- Yazid Yakub

Amirul Adini
Imperial College London

Why should this man be the Undergraduate Rep? Dini lives a life of service.. It is in him to give his time and energy for others, and for good causes.
The memory of the past Winter Games has barely left us. Dini put his heart into making it a success. The level of organisation and dedication he put into the job was unparalleled. When he faced criticism, he took it all in stride, stood tall and responded patiently. Never once did he lose hope or give up. Who else can claim to have done like him?
Dini is a listening ear, and an agent of continued care and positive change. You can count on him to give 110% to the job. As Undergraduate Rep he will be there for the Social and Welfare needs of all our undergrads wherever they may be. Currently Dini spends his time reading, writing, exercising apart from working towards his Materials degree.
- Ayyub Kamaludin

Faadzilah Rahim
University College London

Among the people that I have known, Faadzilah is the most organised, highly dedicated and reliable person which is not surprising to know that she is a former head girl in MS. Also, when she is given a task, not only she gets it done on time, she does it in her very own awesome way. If you want your voices to be heard, vote for her and I am sure you won’t regret it.
- Nurmariah Syafikah Haji Menjeni

Postgraduate Social and Welfare Secretary

The voting procedure is as follows:

Each Union member may vote for a candidate by sending in their votes to bsunion.elections@gmail.co

m with “Votes” as a subject heading. Please be reminded that you may only vote for a candidate in the positions in which he/she is nominated for. You do not have to vote for all positions but it is advised that you do. If you want to vote for more than one candidate in a particular position you may do so by putting the candidates in the order of preference. e.g. for financial sect, I vote for 1. Miss X 2. Mr Y 3. Mr Z.

We will only be counting votes that are sent in between the voting period stated above, so if you have sent in your votes before, please send them in again (after the voting period commences, of course), regardless of whether or not your votes have changed. The results of the elections will be posted on the website by the 11th of May, and the AGM will be held at a later date, when everyone is free from the chains of exams and dissertation deadlines. The full list of candidates is up on the Union website: www.bsunion.org. Please visit the site for more details on nominations and voting.

Kind Regards,
