BruLeics Fashion Show – Poll
The BruLeics society is contemplating on holding a Fashion Show event, as a way to stimulate some healthy fun competition between societies. While no specific date has been set, the event will likely be held sometime in March (a few weeks after ICUBS upcoming Brunei Night).
In order to gauge interest in the event, the BSUnion is running a poll on their behalf.

Salam. If there are yes buttons, why don’t they have here any other choice of no?
Salam again
it might sounds offensive but this is just my point of view. I don’t think it’s suitable for us whose still holding to our culture and Islamic rooooots.
Hopefully BruLeics will think twice about this? It’s appreciable to have a healthy competition but is surely there are many other ways to do this. I amsure Bruleics can come up with more brilliant ideas! =D
Waalaikumsalam. I understand your concerns, however it is quite offensive that you would think negatively even before anything has happened.
This event is not an orthodox fashion show, as we will be incorporating traditional themes within the competition. Rules and regulations have been set in place to ratify concerns of controversy and the main committee will make sure of this.
If you any more concerns or any enquiries, feel free to contact us at bruleics@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
@anony ur so stupid! Huhuhu
But i agree to what anony said. isnt there any no button?
guys, aku level 49 sudah cod. skajap lagi kan prestige. kamu?
@hellohi aku prestige sudah. batah kau ah…
although seriously, if rules and regulations are already set which includes covering up 8oo8ies and cokebottlecurves, then that’s fine! looking forward to it BruLeics! when will this be confirmed? let us know soon though, we need time to prepare and stuff.
Yea why isnt there a No button???
But anywy i think its inappropriate as …
a) budget? wat about sewing skills? do we need to get sewing machine? wat do we do with all the clothes we just made? seems troublesome. plus budget for hair products and make up products? thats way to expensive.
b) MIB~ as said previously by the others.
@Rabie, thank you for your comment and we’ve noted down your concerns. Like we said, this is only a poll so as soon as it closes down on Wednesday, result will be acquired and more plans will be conducted and thought through for the best possible outcome.

Sorry about that. I set up the poll, and didn’t include a no. I figured those who were not interested would not answer.
In any case, I will include a no option from now on. See the latest poll on the Charity Run…
hell to the yeah!
Be ticket kah ni kalau kan datang mliat?
please think twice about this event….. its a no from me
Not really much interest in fashion but I wouldnt mind giving this event a go and green light, its a matter of individual opinions here though i have to admit, some people really do need to ‘LAY OFF’ the negative stereotype of things prematurely…sheesh, that is very narrow minded =_=
kamu ani tah banar… bukannya ada bini-bini makai spendet ni! kalau mau atu… aga ke Soho haha.
yeah… ada ticket kah? how much?
Yeah man, have you ever seen a fashion show before? They don’t just show scantily clad men and women out there mmkays.

Not saying Bruleics Fashion show is gonna be an islamic one but….If you don’t wanna see some skin (ha!) then don’t attend, as simple as that.
This is lain daripada yg lain. I agree with YES about the negative stereotype things and being narrow minded.
@Rabie I don’t know how the fashion show will be but about budget I think if people want to join he/she doesn’t have to spend that much money if he/she doesn’t want to. It’s a matter of kesanggupan. For instance some people sanggup beli new football shoes or badminton racket for Winter Games. Same case here, if people want to spend then it’s their own choice. Also they can use whatever they already have I guess, ada jua Bruneians yang keep a fashionable wardrobe.
I am not on anyone side’s but seriously, be more open minded.
I agree with @Heidi Klum and aku pun sudah prestige.
@rabie mun tau diri atu kapih inda mampu dang, inda payah ikut! ani sampat lagi complain tu. @neop why do they have to think twice for this event? Bagi lah reason idiot!
salam everyone,
i don’t mean to offence anyone, but please mind your language when voicing out your opinion. bear in mind that this website is directly linked to upp and not only that the officials are able to view this this but other officials/people back home can check this as well. it would be a big disappointment for Brunei as bruneian scholars like us behaving like this.
apologies if in any way i hurt anyones feeling with this comment.
wassalam.
censored sikit deh ngucap2 ah.. pasik kang idung ah…
Salam, I agree. Please refrain yourselves from using profanity in your comments here. It’s very embarrassing on behalf of all the scholars and what kind of image we show to the officials and everyone back home.
Regarding the fashion show, I’m only stating my opinion here so please don’t bombard me with hate comments. It’s good to see that BruLeics is making the initiative to organise an event where us students can gather together and possibly have some fun. But after looking at the teaser, the BruLeics society, or more specifically to those involved in this event MUST remember that there’s a fine line between what’s allowed and what isn’t in our culture and religion. For instance (and I do sincerely apologise if this may make offense) but leggings and tudung do not go together. Kitani yang di UK ani mesti saling ingat-mengingati. To publisice that sort of “style” may give a wrong idea to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
I know people are saying,”If you don’t wanna go then don’t” etc. But in response to Si Jul, do you know how controversial those Islamic fashion shows are?? Just because they exist, it doesn’t even justify whether they’re right or wrong.
So if BruLeics is going to go ahead with this event, I strongly suggest that you choose your wardrobe wisely and in moderation.

I think that BruLeic should be commended for trying to create a new event for Bruneians in the UK, kudos on the initiative shown here. However, we feel that even with the best intentions, this event will only promote unnecessary vanity and materialism. We understand that creativity in the fashion industry is important, and agree that these talents are currently unrecognised in the Bruneian context. However, fashion competitions and “lookbooks” risk being an outlet for narcissistic self-validation, aside from the other religious concerns.
We understand that the event has the best interests in mind, but feel that a fashion event has to overcome far too many hurdles in order to be successful – and in order to be accepted by the majority of the student body. in all honesty, if something like this causes so much opposition already – it’s probably not worth it.
Also, why talents in fashion? Why not a different type of “talent competition” – cooking, for example. This is a very cultural practice, causes very little controversy – if anything, we’re sure most people will happily participate/attend and welcome – and is definitely an opportunity to discover many untapped talents. Also, many Bruneian students would have improved their cooking over the years of studying abroad.
At any rate, our opinions are meant to provide constructive criticism and we wish you all the best.
First off, people really need to compromise with each other especially when there are different opinions thrown here and there, inda jua payah kan keluar perkataan macam ’stupid’ lah etc. Everyone has a different take on things, just because you disagree with someone’s opinion doesn’t mean you have the right to insult them. Second, there’s a strong debate regarding people being ‘narrow and open minded’. The thing is, those who voice out their concern about the religious aspect are immediately labelled ‘narrow minded’, terlampau ‘over’ lah, and basically are told to ‘jangan tah datang, habis cerita’.
Masalahnya ah, there is no such thing as ‘narrow minded’ when it comes to religious matters. Narrow minded kah kalau kita sebagai orang Islam menegur kalau benda tu sememangnya ada potential untuk menjadi perkara yang boleh mendatangkan dosa? I understand, not everyone has a strong religious perceptive, so naturally they would think it’s ’sekadar’.
However, whatever decision that will be made in the end regarding this event, whether it will happen or not, hopefully the committee will consider a lot of things regarding the show itself; perhaps you can set out a set of rules of the approved designs, especially if there are any participants who will be wearing headscarves, to keep it close to the approved Islamic guidelines to avoid any unwanted dispute for e.g pakai tudung tapi baju nampak shape, leggings, sky scraper high heels, thick make up, etc (although frankly those yang memakai tudung atu…memang diketahui perkara macam ani jangan tah kan participate, bukan apa, bertudung tu pun untuk menjaga modesty diri, so buat apa kan participate event yang menonjolkan diri and menarik perhatian mata mata lelaki yang attend).
Naturally there will be those who will disagree with my opinion, but hear this- respect each others’ opinions, inda payah ucap ucap walaupun inda sependapat.
p/s: If jadi this event I might come pulang still to see it and support, so either way, hopefully the committee will consider things very cautious should it be approved.
Siuk tah fashion show kamu ahh??? inda blaku datang, ada jemputan hari atu.
